Special Containment Procedures

Containment of SCP-420-J-037-A is impossible. Rather than incarceration, Foundation protocol has shifted to covert operational management within the VRChat community known as SHIELD. Foundation assets are embedded within SHIELD to observe and, when necessary, influence events.

  • SHIELD members are not to be informed of the anomalous properties of SCP-420-J-037-A; they shall continue to participate in events unaware of the true nature of the subject.
  • Only one Foundation operative, designated Polar, is authorized and aware of the anomaly. Polar is responsible for discreetly facilitating revival when SCP-420-J-037-A enters incapacitation states during patrols or events.
  • Revival requires the actual physical presence of either:
    1. Cannabis (weed) — the tangible object/substance, or
    2. Ranger — the actual person (hereafter "Ranger") present in the same virtual instance.
Verbal mention, text chat, or simulated representations do not trigger revival.
  • Polar must ensure availability of at least one valid trigger (weed or Ranger) during scheduled SHIELD patrols and major events. Foundation staff embedded in SHIELD will provide logistical support to Polar as needed under the guise of routine roleplay assistance.

Description

SCP-420-J-037-A appears as a female humanoid avatar within the VRChat environment. Under simulated attack (firearms, melee, explosives simulated via VR mechanics), the subject will convincingly collapse and maintain a death-like, motionless state. All signs — animations, voice, and emotes — indicate full incapacitation.

When either the actual physical substance "weed" is introduced into proximity or Ranger physically enters the same virtual instance, SCP-420-J-037-A instantaneously and fully reanimates: motion, voice, and all avatar functions restore with no residual damage or memory gap. The effect is immediate (typically <0.5 s) upon the trigger's presence.

Key characteristics:

  • Trigger mechanism: object/person proximity (non-linguistic, non-memetic).
  • Effect scope: individual restoration limited to SCP-420-J-037-A only. No observable ripple effects on nearby avatars or environment.
  • Volition: Subject cooperates with operations and shows no hostile intent. She actively participates in SHIELD activities.
  • Awareness: SHIELD membership attributes survivability to non-anomalous causes (skill, scripting, in-game gear). Only Polar knows the truth.

Addendum A - Selected Incident Logs

Incident 420-J-037-A-012025-08-06

  • Event: Routine SHIELD patrol; subject hit with simulated rifle fire from four participants.
  • Timeline: T+0: subject collapses. T+34 s: Polar retrieves a small joint (physical object in-instance) and brings it near subject. T+34.2 s: subject reanimates, stands, and resumes patrol.
  • Notes: No physical injuries observed pre/post; subject exhibited confusion for ~2 s then requested location of "Ranger."

Incident 420-J-037-A-022025-08-07

  • Event: Ambush scenario; subject incapacitated by melee simulations.
  • Timeline: T+0: subject down. T+7 s: Ranger logs into the instance and approaches. T+7.1 s: immediate revival.
  • Notes: Revival occurs even when Ranger's approach is incidental (i.e., Ranger unaware of subject's state). Ranger displays no anomalous properties.

Incident 420-J-037-A-032025-08-12

  • Event: Polar misplaced the weed prop prior to a scheduled patrol; no Ranger available. Subject remained in incapacitation for 42 minutes until Polar secured Ranger's presence via coordination with embedded Foundation asset, at which point immediate revival occurred.
  • Operational impact: Delays to mission timelines; procedural memo filed requiring a redundant trigger resource be available.

Addendum B - Operational Notes

  • Because SHIELD operates as a public VRChat group with independent actors, Foundation policy emphasizes non-disclosure and minimal interference. Polar's cover is maintained by portraying the logistics actions as routine roleplay or event-support.
  • Polar has authority to: procure discrete weed props (packaged to avoid real-world legal/ethical issues), coordinate Ranger's presence for scheduled operations, and, in emergencies, enlist other embedded Foundation assets to approximate trigger conditions (only if Ranger/weed are unavailable). All such actions must preserve plausible deniability to SHIELD members.

Classification Rationale

APOLLYON-J. The anomaly is effectively uncontainable within standard Foundation frameworks due to its mechanistic tie to a public virtual community and the necessity of real-world persons/objects for trigger activation. The "-J" suffix denotes the anomaly's lighthearted context and low-lethality profile; despite Apollyon status (uncontainable), the subject poses no known existential threat.

Notes on Ethics & Legal Compliance

  • All Foundation field actions within VRChat comply with current internal guidelines on non-interference with community experiences. Physical distribution of controlled substances in real life is forbidden; all "weed" props utilized by Polar are simulated/in-instance props or inert theatrical items that function as the anomaly's trigger without requiring illicit real-world distribution.
  • Personnel must avoid direct, explicit deception that could result in psychological harm to uninformed community members. Any necessary cover story should be framed as in-character roleplay support.
